Awards, Honors and Commendations

As the premier provider of comprehensive health services in the West Georgia/East Alabama region, West Georgia Health has been honored for its achievements in many areas of patient care.

  • 2002 – The College of American Pathologists grants national approval to the laboratory at West Georgia Health . Approval is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to provide the best laboratory services.
  • 2003 – West Georgia Medical Center, West Georgia Home Care and West Georgia Hospice/Hospice LaGrange receive accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a result of demonstrated compliance with the Joint Commission’s nationally recognized health care standards.
  • 2004 – West Georgia Health receives a Quality and Patient Safety Award for improving patient safety and medical outcomes.
  • 2005 – West Georgia Health and its senior management team are recognized for being one of 100 hospitals making the greatest progress in improving hospital-wide performance over five years (2000-2004).
  • 2005 – The Georgia Department of Community Health selects West Georgia Health to participate in the Atlantic Cardiovascular-Patient Outcomes Research Team (C-PORT) Trial.
  • 2006 – West Georgia Health receives the 2005 Solucient 100 Top Hospitals® performance Improvement Leaders award for being one of 100 hospitals making the greatest progress in improving hospital-wide performance over five years.
  • 2006 – West Georgia Health scores in the top 25 percent of Georgia hospitals for its performance in several clinical areas including, heart attack (myocardial infarction), heart failure and pneumonia according to an analysis of hospital data compiled by the Partnership for Health and Accountability (PHA).
  • 2007 – West Georgia Health earns a Gastrointestinal Surgery Excellence Award™ for ranking in the top 10 percent nationwide for GI surgery quality and performance. The health system was the only hospital in its region to receive the award.
  • 2007 – West Georgia Health receives a five-star rating for total hip replacement, GI surgery, cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal) and treatment of pancreatitis by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading healthcare ratings company.
  • 2008West Georgia Home Care is named a 2008 Compass Award Winner, demonstrating the most improvement in overall patient satisfaction over a two-year period.
  • 2008 – The Enoch Callaway Cancer Clinic at West Georgia Health earned six commendations from the Commission on Cancer for its cancer staging, patient guidelines, cancer prevention and early detection programs, cancer registry staff education, performance improvements and annual report.
