BCLS for Healthcare Providers

This Course is the required CPR certification course for the Healthcare Professional Environment. Includes 2-year certification card. Class will be held at the Women’s Health Center Education Room. Pre-registration is required.

Breastfeeding Basics

Taught by certified lactation consultants, this class will help expectant mothers learn the basics of breastfeeding – from techniques and positioning to overcoming common challenges.

Heartsaver CPR with AED and First Aid

This course covers the techniques of CPR and foreign body removal for adult / Child and Infant patients and the safe and effective operation of an automated external defibrillator. Includes 2-year certification card. Class will be held at the Women’s Health Center Education Room. Pre-registration is required. Student manual available upon receipt of payment for class.

Infant Safety & CPR

This class is great for parents, grandparents, and babysitters and provides hands-on training in infant and child CPR.

Prepared Childbirth Series Class (5 Week Series)

The Prepared Childbirth Series Course can help you have the best pregnancy, birth and early parenting experiences! It's about taking the mystery out of childbirth and giving you the confidence to labor your way.

By taking a childbirth class, you’re making a good investment in you and your baby.

What Happens in a the Prepared Childbirth Series Class?

Childbirth education classes are interactive and informative. Your instructor will thoroughly explain the changes your body will go through and what you can expect during pregnancy, birth and beyond.

A childbirth education class is also your opportunity to:

  • Have your questions answered by an expert.
  • Understand what you can do to benefit you and your baby during the childbirth process.
  • Learn strategies to manage pain.
  • Discover how to more effectively work with your care provider so that together, you can make decisions you feel good about.

In-depth About What Exactly Your Class Covers:

  • Class 1 - Intro to childbirth, pain theories, breathing and relaxation, exploring thoughts about labor experience, intro to breathing and relaxation techniques.
  • Class 2 - Health and nutrition, anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, Intro to phases and stages of labor, early labor relaxation and positioning, when to go to the hospital, true vs false labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, labor support.
  • Class 3 - Active and Transition phases of labor, pain management and interventions, labor positions and coping/relaxation techniques/massage, labor support, pushing and delivery.
  • Class 4 - Creating your birthing plan and experience: Labor stations with hands on practice of different labor positions and comfort measures, labor support and massage. Cesarean section and recovery, postpartum care and support. Importance of infant and maternal bonding.
  • Class 5 - Continue with postpartum care and breastfeeding introduction. Newborn care and class reunion. Member from previous class comes with support person and baby and tells birthing story with Q&A session from class.

Prepared Childbirth, Fast Track (8-hours)

This all-day, fast paced class is designed for expectant mothers and their partners who are unable to attend the five-week childbirth series class. The class will cover the following topics: anatomy of pregnancy, nutrition, stages and phases of labor, labor support, postpartum, medications, medical interventions, Cesarean section, breathing and relaxation, and newborn care. Attendance is encouraged during the last trimester of pregnancy. Space is limited.

$50.00 per couple

Safe Sitter

Safe Sitter graduates will learn how to handle life-threatening situations, how to keep themselves and the children safe, when and how to call for help, and how to understand and communicate with children of all ages. Participants will even learn some of the business aspects of babysitting - how to interview with new families, develop a business plan, and determine how much to charge. Classes are limited to 12 participants and are held from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at West Georgia Health’s Women’s Health Center.

Required age of participant: 11 – 15 years of age.

Teen Pregnancy Class

Teen Pregnancy Class Offered at West Georgia Health Women’s Health Center

The Women’s Health Center at West Georgia Health and District 4 Public Health will hold a teen pregnancy class for expectant moms, 12-19 years of age on Saturday, November 5 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Women’s Health Center at 1420 Vernon Road (across from LaGrange Academy).

Topics will include: prenatal care and nutrition, labor and delivery, newborn care, breastfeeding and parenting skills. Information will be available from District Four Public Health about the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, Department and Family Children’s Services (DFACS) and the First Steps program. Tours of the new maternal infant unit at West Georgia Medical Center also will be offered.
