Our Mission

The mission of West Georgia Hospice is to provide skilled and compassionate care for individuals and their families facing a lifethreatening illness, centering on the relief of pain and symptoms and focusing on living fully through illness and bereavement.

Our focus is on how to Live. It’s about embracing and making the most of the days that remain and living life on your terms. Whether patients are receiving care at home, in their own bed, under their favorite blanket or in the home-like environment of our 16-bed hospice house, Hospice LaGrange, our staff is dedicated to providing the highest level of comfort, support and peace of mind. Our emphasis is on relieving patients’ pain and the families’ stress and allowing for final moments that have meaning and dignity.

 

West Georgia Hospice/Hospice LaGrange provides

  • A registered nurse available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to provide symptom control
  • A registered nurse visits weekly and as needed
  • Visits by a social worker monthly and as needed
  • A Hospice home health aide for personal care when appropriate
  • A coordinated plan of care under the direction of a physician including physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support
  • Medication required for pain control and comfort
  • Equipment and other materials necessary for care and comfort related to the terminal diagnosis
  • Nursing coverage in the home during periods of crisis
  • Inpatient care to provide respite for the family and for acute crisis intervention
  • Assistance in arranging for full-time nursing care
  • Bereavement support for the families up to one year following their loved one’s death
  • Ongoing bereavement support groups
  • Camp Dogwood, a grief camp for children who have lost a love one

Georgia Health Decisions publishes an advance directive and planning guide, entitled CRITICAL Conditions, which may be obtained from the Hospice staff or by visiting the Georgia Health Decisions website.
