Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a nuclear medicine that produces 3D images of how your organs and body systems are functioning. The type of material used and the delivery system depends on the organ being studied.
PET scans allow physicians to locate abnormal molecular cell activity, which may indicate the presence of cancer in a patient's body. The scans are used to stage cancer following diagnosis.
WellStar West Georgia Medical Center's PET scanner gives certified radiological technologists the ability to complete more PET scans each week. It is currently available for use on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
