Vernon Woods Activities

At Vernon Woods, we believe vitality is a key to healthy living. Providing opportunities for residents to meet and socialize with their neighbors is an important facet of daily living at Vernon Woods.

Our Life Enrichment directors create a monthly calendar which includes activities seven days/week that enhance the needs of the mind, body, and spirit. Residents are encouraged to participate in any of the wide variety of activities offered on-site every day.

Fitness programs are available every day through our Fit For You® program led by a certified instructor. The program includes and variety of classes including Yoga, Tai Chi, Barefoot Balance, Trigger Point Therapy and Zumba Gold. Video tapes are available on days when there is no live instructor, and a fitness room is always available with two treadmills and a recumbent step machine.

Residents are also encouraged to participate in the resident ambassador program which offers residents the opportunity to help by: 

  • Greeting visitors and directing phone calls at the front desk.
  • Assisting with activities.
  • Helping with marketing events.
  • Creating and maintaining fresh flower arrangements for the dining room and courtyard tables.
  • Clipping coupons for staff and military families.
  • Delivering newspapers to resident apartments.

There are also many opportunities for residents to enjoy activities off-campus. We offer an average of 12-15 trips each month to enjoy cultural arts, church luncheons, the local senior center, restaurants, theaters and other local attractions.

For those who prefer in-house activities, there are many special programs including exercise classes, bible study and chapel, bingo games, musical programs, pet therapy, and other social events.
