West Georgia Hospice has been named a 2013 Hospice Honors recipient, a prestigious award recognizing hospice agencies providing the best patient care as rated by the patient’s caregiver.
Established by Deyta, this annual honor recognizes the top 100 agencies that continuously provide the highest level of satisfaction through their care as measured from the caregiver’s point of view. Deyta used the Family Evaluation of Hospice Care (FEHC) survey results from over 1,200 partnering hospice agencies contained in its national, FEHC database with an evaluation period of January through December 2012. Deyta used the five key drivers of caregiver satisfaction as the basis of the Hospice Honors calculations.

West Georgia Health recently launched a new palliative care program that offers specialized care to inpatients who are coping with a chronic illness such as congestive heart failure, kidney failure, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or Alzheimer's disease.

West Georgia Medical Center recently transitioned staffing of its four-year hospitalist program to West Georgia Hospital Medicine, a new physician practice operating under West Georgia Health Physicians. Serving as medical director for the program is Rod Duraski, M.D., a board-certified internal medicine specialist who practiced as a traditional internist caring for patients both in the office setting and hospital in LaGrange for 16 years.

West Georgia Health Outpatient Rehabilitation Services has recently begun offering a new physical therapy program designed to delay the progression of symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
LSVT BIG is a standardized treatment program of 16 sessions, four consecutive days a week for four weeks with an LSVT BIG-certified therapist. The approach teaches the amount of effort required to produce normal movements and translates these bigger movements into real-world, everyday activities.

West Georgia Health is spearheading a new initiative to develop a comprehensive Community Resource Directory for Troup County, with a special emphasis on reaching the low-income, uninsured, minority and chronic disease populations. Beginning today, West Georgia Health, in collaboration with the Troup County Center for Strategic Planning, United Way of West Georgia and Troup Family Connection, is seeking submissions from all agencies, organizations, churches and any other groups that provide health, legal or social services or assistance to Troup County residents.
