WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, in conjunction with Breast Friends for Life breast cancer support group, hosts the Paint the Town Pink community-wide event on the final Saturday in September each year. A celebration of survivorship and a day of breast cancer awareness, Paint the Town Pink has grown over the years to include a host of screenings and information booths, as well as the HOPE for a Day Walk. This 10-mile walk around the heart of LaGrange raises money to help fund mammograms and other necessary breast cancer screenings for uninsured or underinsured people living in Troup and surrounding counties.
In addition, a partnership between WellStar West Georgia Medical Center and the West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition allows Paint the Town Pink to offer free clinical breast exams and provide follow-up necessary diagnostic and treatment options for all women and men who meet the American Cancer Society guidelines for screening and qualify for the support. Funding for this service comes from the Breast Cancer License Tag fund and the HOPE for a Day proceeds.
