Hospital Flu Visitation Policy

Hospital Flu Visitation Policy for 2018

The onset of fall and winter always presents a concern as the cold and flu season poses an increased risk for our patients, and it is frequently necessary for hospitals to take additional steps to protect our patients.

With wide-spread cases of the flu and respiratory viruses in the community it is necessary to implement changes to our visitation policy intended to protect and ensure the well-being of all our patients.

Effective January 26, 2018, and until further notice, a few changes to visitation will be in place.

Visitors must meet the following requirements:

  • Siblings of the patient must be 12 years of age or older.
  • Non-sibling visitors must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Any persons presenting with signs of illness will be asked not to enter the patient care areas.

You can assist us in protecting our patients, visitors and staff by:

  • Keeping visitors to a minimum and consider the use of FaceTime or SKYPE instead of in-person visits.
  • Refraining from visiting if you have a cough and a fever.
  • Keeping children home if they have a cough and a fever.
  • Practicing good hand hygiene before, during and after visiting and after touching personal items such as cell phones, purses and electronic equipment.
  • Covering your mouth/nose with a tissue when coughing/sneezing and wash hands immediately afterwards. Or better, cough or sneeze into your sleeve.

A return to routine visitation will be made as soon as possible and will be based on recommendations from physicians, infection prevention teams, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

We thank you in advance for your cooperation, participation and support of our efforts and for your understanding for any inconvenience.

Please feel free to talk to the unit staff or a member of the medical team with any questions.
