The average women spends about 76 minutes getting ready in the morning between showering, hair styling, make-up, and trying on different combinations of clothes. If women dedicated at least half that time toward getting their regular health screenings, they could take an important step toward not only protecting their health but potentially saving their lives.
Located in a beautiful Georgian-style home adjacent to the West Georgia Health campus on Vernon Road, the Women’s Health Center at West Georgia Health (WGH) provides a full range of testing and diagnostic procedures in a soothing, spa-like environment. Designed with women’s health care needs, comfort, and convenience in mind, the Center is equipped with soft lighting, luxurious spa robes, roomy private changing areas, a coffee bar, and other special touches to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Patients can also relax by the fountain on the outdoor veranda or in one of several comfortable seating areas as they are waiting for their diagnostic images to be evaluated.
The 8,000 square foot facility focuses not only on women’s health, but on improving the health of all residents in the WGH service area. "Women are the primary health-care decision makers in their families," said WGH President/CEO Jerry Fulks. "By empowering women to maintain good health and participate in their own care, we can help women – and, through them, their families - become healthy and stay healthy throughout their lives."
One of the Women's Health Center’s objectives is to educate women about the benefits of early detection and prevention. "Breast cancer and osteoporosis are two health conditions that are most treatable when found early," said Medical Director, Edward Bass, M.D. "With breast cancer, the five-year survival rate exceeds 95 percent when detected early. Our goal with the center is to help make it easier for women make their health and regular screenings a priority."
Providing the latest in imaging technology, the Center’s radiologist and highly-trained and caring staff arm women and their physicians with the information they need to make decisions about their care. Additional scans are performed immediately, reducing the need for return trips and preventing possible delays in diagnosis and treatment.
