Thirteen area students have received the George E. Sims Nursing Scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Funded by the Fuller E. Callaway Foundation and administered by the LaGrange-Troup County Hospital Authority, the scholarship includes all costs associated with fulfilling the requirements of a nursing degree.
In turn, the recipients agree to work at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center for 1½ to 3 years after they graduate, depending on the duration of the scholarship. Approximately half of all nurses employed at WellStar West Georgia received the Sims Scholarship while earning their degrees.
Sims Scholarship recipients who are studying in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at LaGrange College are Sara Ann Bryant, Alexis Corley, Hope Grace, Nikkola Guzzi, Leah Harrison, Madison Lester, Savanna McMillian, Hannah Peek, Jessica Siggers, Morgan Sikes and Teagan Smickle. Other 2018-2019 Sims Scholars are Jazlyn Crane, who attends the University of West Georgia, and Lillian Firth, who attends Truett-McConnell College.
This year’s 13 scholarships total approximately $600,000. Fuller E. Callaway Foundation has provided over $22.5 million in scholarships for 1,284 nursing students since the Sims program’s inception in 1967.
