WellStar West Georgia Auxiliary donates $500,000 for Cancer Center expansion

WellStar West Georgia Medical Center Auxiliary has donated a total of $500,000 since 2010 to help renovate and expand Enoch Callaway Cancer Center, a project that will benefit our entire community. The $10 million campaign has received a groundswell of support from local residents and organizations, and is supported by a $5 million matching grant from Callaway Foundation, Inc.

“We are grateful for the tremendous support from the community for the cancer center expansion,” said West Georgia Medical Center President Jerry Fulks. “Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer, either through their own personal experience or through someone they love. The members of our Auxiliary understand that this project is an essential investment in the health and wellbeing of our community well into the future.”

The project will bring all aspects of cancer care – from diagnostics to research, treatment, supportive programs and follow-up care – under one roof. The center will also address the patients’ emotional, psychological and spiritual needs.

“When you or a loved one needs treatment for cancer, staying close to home can make all the difference,” said WellStar WGMC Auxiliary President Sarah Andrews. “Our Auxiliary members provide thousands of hours of service each year throughout the hospital. We also raise funds through the gift shop, annual events and specialty sales to fund pressing needs at West Georgia Medical Center. We are pleased that we could make a significant gift to the West Georgia Health Foundation to support the cancer center renovation and expansion.”

Estimated completion date for the cancer center project is early 2020.
